尼克7日在主場迎戰爵士，3位主將「甜瓜」安森尼、「波神」波爾金吉斯、「飆風玫瑰」羅斯合力轟下74分，團隊命中率高達50%，但最後仍以109比114不敵爵士，目前僅獲得2勝4敗，與鄰居籃網隊相同，並且4場敗仗的平均輸分超過16分。
爵士前鋒海沃德本季首度登場，尼克教頭荷納塞克碰上老東家爵士，決定先禮後兵，賽前他讚揚海沃德「若非身在西區，早已進入全明星賽，他的擋切打法爐火純青」。結果海沃德毫不客氣，灌進全場最高的28分，幫助爵士獲勝。
安森尼、波爾金吉斯各攻下28分，羅斯18分、8助攻。羅斯說，「領導者有很多種，有布萊恩那種當面威嚇隊友的激勵方式，也有像鄧肯那般強調以身作則的風格，而我是屬於後者。」
尼克季前延攬羅斯、康尼李、詹寧斯3名後衛，以及可投可傳的諾亞，總管傑克生不再選擇費雪這般能確實奉行「三角戰術」的人擔任教練，而找來擅打速度戰的荷納塞克，看似尼克將可跳脫「三角戰術」的枷鎖，打出新的球風。
然而尼克輸球後又有記者再問到安森尼關於三角戰術的想法，讓安森尼略顯無奈的說，「不管跑甚麼戰術，我們一直在調整進攻模式，現在聽到三角戰術讓我感到疲倦。」雖安森尼想打出新球風，不過至今僅2勝4敗的戰績，想證明不需三角戰術，得再加把勁。
